Message from the Director

The Revolutionary War officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on September 3, 1783. Hispanic Heritage Month begins September 15, marking the start of the Mexican American War of Independence in 1810, which ended in independence for the New Spain Colony, ultimately creating the modern states of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Chile commemorates its Independence on September 16.

September also marks the start of the school year. Our hope for summer reading is always that student participation over the summer helps maintain an enthusiasm for reading for student success in the Fall and that by keeping it fun engenders a desire to be lifelong learners.
